7 Tips to Wrap-Up 2015

We are in the final stretch of 2015, which means it’s time for year-end reflection, organization and planning. We consulted Lynn Klassert, SBDC Regional Director and Business Advisor, to gather seven tips to help business owners successfully wrap-up 2015.

1. Reflect

What did you do well this year and what do you need to improve on next year?

2. Plan for Tax Season

Prepare year-end reports to make the approaching tax season a little more tolerable. Are there any write-offs that you missed?

3. Budget

If you haven’t already done so, develop your 2016 budget. Make sure to look for ways to trim the fat off your expenses.

4. Set Goals

Break behemoth yearly goals into more manageable quarterly goals. It’s important to set aggressive goals, but be realistic about the resources at your disposal. Next, define a strategy to reach your goals and write them down.

5. Organize

Clean your office, your email, and your computer files. Backup your computer and consider investing in a tool to streamline your process, such as a project management tool like Basecamp or a note app like Evernote.

6. Get Involved

This is a great time of year to attend a community event. According to Klassert, “participation is key. Always be networking, because you never know where your next big opportunity will come from.” Check our Calendar for upcoming startup events, such as Startup Weekend Anchorage.

7. Change your Passwords

If you haven’t changed your passwords since you opened your business, it’s time to change them. Consider a password management tool if you have a tendency to forget new passwords.

Our seven tips will help you finish 2015 strong and get a jumpstart on 2016. Did we miss something? If so, let us know in the comment section below. Happy New Year!
